Courtyard, Lunch Out, and the Elevator

OLIVER CARNEAL — Throughout this interesting school year thus far, we have faced many challenges as a student body: abandoning our everyday rituals and making sacrifices for the safety of our peers. However, with COVID gradually abating, many students have been wondering about when we will go back to the “normal” times. Mr. Green, Upper School Dean, offered to give the student body an idea as to when some aspects of our everyday life at Collegiate will revert to regular circumstances.

Elevators

Firstly, Mr. Green emphasized that we will not be seeing any elevators until at the earliest fall of 2021. However, there are some things to potentially look forward to before we wrap things up in June.

Courtyard and Lunch Out

While being unable to promise anything, Mr. Green explained that the school will consider returning these privileges very carefully. “I don’t think anyone here at Collegiate wants to jump the gun on anything,” explains Mr. Green. His statements regarding these topics were entangled with both optimism and realism. He understands why it is tempting to “get ahead of ourselves,” but as a school we must take “measured and informed decisions” as to when we can, and will return to “some sense of normalcy around here.” Essentially, no one should get their hopes up too much. Everyone misses being able to play soccer in the courtyard between classes, but in order to keep direct contact down and prioritize the safety of the entire school, we must make sacrifices. Mr. Green understands that this was not necessarily the answer anyone wanted to hear, but everyone knows it is the answer that we needed to hear.
