Dutch Varsity Soccer Recap 2021

Oliver Goldin — This year’s Collegiate Soccer regular season has come to a close. The Dutchmen entered the season hoping to follow through on the goal of making it to the postseason. Although they started the season on a loss, the Dutchmen quickly responded with a stunning 5-0 win against Dalton. Soon after the Dalton game, they earned another big 5-1 non-league win against Lycée Français. Seniors RJ, Teddy, Kevin, Liam, Chris, and Cosimo led the team to many more wins against Dalton, Fieldston, Poly Prep, and two ties against Hackley. However, if you think I may have forgotten, I did not. In addition to all these wins, the troops fought for a huge comeback win against Trinity right in front of our fans. Although the team had been down 1-0 for much of the game, Cosimo somehow scored two goals in the final minutes to complete a remarkable comeback. Despite not performing up to its lofty standards, the team captured a spot in the NYSAIS Tournament as the seventh seed. Portledge traveled to Randalls to meet us for a play-in game but could not match our energy. With a hat trick from RJ, two goals from Cosimo, and a goal from Miles ‘24, Collegiate moved past Portledge with an amazing 6-0 win. Even after such a big win to begin the postseason, the job was not done. Collegiate went to Rye Country Day for the quarterfinals. In front of their students and fans, Collegiate beat second-seeded Rye on their home turf 3-0. The hat trick by Cosimo earned Collegiate a spot in the semifinals at Hackley. Unfortunately, this game did not go as hoped. Even with Cosimo’s absolutely astounding goal from great distance, it was not enough to move into the finals. The Collegiate Soccer season was cut short after a 3-1 loss to Hackley. However, a NYSAIS championship was not needed to consider this an amazing season. The team entered the playoffs as a lower seed and managed to get all the way to the semifinals, including the win against #2 Rye on their own field. Overall, the team made a great run in the postseason and had great wins during the regular season. Collegiate will be back next year to go all the way.
