Wrestling Season Comes to a Close

OLIVER GOLDIN — The Collegiate Varsity Wrestling Team competed through an incredibly memorable season. The Dutchmen smoothly defeated many teams both in and out of league by large margins. The team also saw a nearly full wrestling roster which has not been seen at Collegiate in many years. The many new faces on the wrestling team helped to take down other schools wrestling teams who lacked the same size and commitment as our Dutchmen.

Although the team did not finish the season as Ivy Prep League Regular Season champions, they took home the Ivy Prep League Tournament title. I myself was present at this glorious event and had the pleasure of watching the Dutchmen defeat Poly Prep for first place, a team they had lost to the first time around. With first place finishes from Sean Tansey ‘23, James Carlock ‘23, Leo Tansey ‘25, and Alex Rodriguez ‘24, the Dutchmen earned hardware that they had fallen just short of last season.

The team, as a whole, concluded their season with the NYSAIS wrestling tournament. Although the Dutchmen were unable to defend their title, they still put up an amazing fight and came second. With Sean Tansey ‘23, Leo Tansey ‘25, and James Carlock ‘23 taking first, they helped put Collegiate towards the top of the leaderboards and earned themselves a spot in the state tournament. In addition, Liam Stiles ‘23 fought for a well deserved second place finish and successfully earned a place in the state tournament.

The Dutchmen sent the most wrestlers out of any NYSAIS team to the state tournament and put everything they had into succeeding. Collegiate saw very hard fought wins from both James Carlock ‘23 and Leo Tansey ‘25, but they both fell short of podium placement. Nonetheless, Sean Tansey ‘23 became the first NYSAIS wrestler to ever make the state finals and earned a silver medal at the tournament. Having taken seventh place the year before, Sean came back this year determined and ready to work harder than ever before as he triumphantly fought to the finals match.

The Collegiate Wrestling Team continued this year their excellence from last season, bringing more hardware to the school once again. Their impressive season saw both great individual and team achievements. All in all, this year will go down as one of the school’s most memorable wrestling seasons ever.
