Tiger Woods: Return To Glory

Will Greene-

Tiger Woods has 82 PGA Tour victories (tied for first), is a 15-time Major champion, achieved a career Grand Slam, became the youngest Masters champion ever, and made the most remarkable comeback in sports history. He is the best golfer of his generation and became the first African-American to win a PGA event. During the early 2000s, Tiger was putting on a dominant display, crushing everyone in his path, winning an absurd 56 PGA tour events from 2000 to 2009.

However, his historic decline began in 2009 on Thanksgiving, when he ran his Escalade into a fire hydrant outside his house, triggering his downfall. This event would trigger the end of a marriage and the potential destruction of his career. Additionally, Tiger’s physical condition was deteriorating; he was dealing with severe back issues and had four back surgeries by 2017, which people thought would end his career. Amid all these surgeries, Tiger was secretly abusing his prescribed painkillers. Tiger was exposed when he was arrested at 3 AM in Florida for driving under the influence.

Tiger’s love for the game did not disintegrate through all of the commotion as he released this statement after his DUI arrest: “I want to say unequivocally, I want to play professional golf again.” Tiger somehow returned to the game in 2018, at 43, and still competed at a very high level, winning the PGA’s final tournament of the season, The Tour Championship. Nevertheless, Tiger set his eyes on the grand prize: The master. At those legendary grounds, in Augusta, Georgia, in April 2019, Tiger asserted his dominance, winning his fifth green jacket at the Masters, overcoming all the odds. Tiger’s fantastic comeback story earned him a Medal of Freedom from President Donald Trump.
