Varsity Soccer Season

Julien Dujarric

So far, the Varsity Soccer season for the Collegiate Dutchmen has not shaped up to be what many had anticipated to be an undefeated season, winning many trophies in the end. As things stand at the moment, the Triumphant Dutchmen sit at the bottom of the table with zero points through six games, (essentially an 0-6 record on the year). Although these results seem less than ideal, I am here to tell you why this is looking like one of the greatest comeback stories in high school sports history.

One reason why the Dutchmen are more than likely to turn their season around is that they have been missing their star-studded midfielder since Day 1 of preseason workouts, when he tore his labrum in his shoulder, and has been out since then. This midfielder, a former academy player for one of the top clubs in the state, has the potential to single-handedly revamp our team and lead us to the promised land, that being the playoffs, and hopefully even a championship.

Secondly, I believe that their team is in a great position currently, having already played all but one team in the league, preparing to play them all again. At this time, we as a team have been able to see first-hand all the other teams strengths and weaknesses and can now adjust our tactics accordingly. With this knowledge, the team has already begun implementing new strategies that allow us to exploit our opponents’ vulnerabilities. Moreover, the players have built stronger chemistry and are more unified, having been through the adversity of their tough start. The return of key players combined with tactical adjustments will undoubtedly make the Dutchmen a force to be reckoned with. Finally, the team’s hunger to prove naysayers wrong is fueling their motivation to leave everything on the field for the remainder of the season.
